Every student matters everyday

Children requiring support for their learning are catered for by their classroom teacher and specialist teachers.

At Mapleton State School, students with additional needs are identified by teaching staff and referred to the Students with Additional Needs (SWAN) committee.  The SWAN committee includes the Principal, Head of Curriculum, STLaN, Inclusion Teacher, classroom teacher and the Guidance Officer.  Outcomes from the meeting may include referral to the Speech-Language Pathologist, Guidance Officer or School Chaplain, learning adjustments and recommendations or continued monitoring and observation.  Meetings are conducted weekly.

Our school is serviced by one Inclusion Teacher, over several days per week. This teacher works with the classroom teacher, HoD-C and parent/carer to develop specialised learning programs or an Individual Curriculum Plan which best suits that child. The teachers are assisted by advisory visiting teachers for intellectual and physical impairment, a speech/language pathologist, and a Guidance Officer.
